Age Group Counts for St. George
The IronMan St. George website released bib numbers and age groups for next month’s race. If you haven’t already found your number you can find it here.
With this info, we can get an accurate count of the age groups for the race. I’d made an estimate before on the St. George IronMan Infographic from the previous participant list. But, since these showed birth ages rather than race age they were off by a bit. Also, we couldn’t pull Pros out of their age groups easily.
So, here are the counts as of April 10th for age groups:

I heard numbers were down compared to last year and wonder what it means for the future of this race. I’m planning for IMSG in 2012 and hope that it will be around for 2012 and beyond.
I *think* there is a five-year contract, so the race will be around for several more years at least. And, I noticed that in the original promotional videos the number 2,000 was used to describe the number of athletes expected to race. They’ll be close to that number this year. Last year may have exceeded their expectations.
The race is building a good reputation, and it adds a lot to the M-dot race calendar to have a challenging early-season North American race. International registrations are up by quite a bit from last year, and they are up in the younger age groups. A couple more years and I think this race can build a good following.
I don’t think it will be going away anytime soon.
